Looks like today AJAX concept have several interpretations. We can distinguish different approaches of AJAX integration. Can they co-exist within the same application? Can we talk about layered AJAX integration?

Design-Time API Promises to make Java more like VB

Artima has published a short article describing the Design-Time API for JavaBeans, which was recently approved as JSR 273. This API promises to bring VB-like ease to Java development, but may face a cultural bias among Java developers who tend to think more in terms of class libraries than components.

Erwin Bolwidt and Vincent Partington did very well in a rapid application development competition which pitted their open source J2EE toolset, centered on Spring, against 4GL tools, among others. They've documented their toolkit and "what went well and what went wrong."

TheServerSide is now a part of technology media company TechTarget. The change comes as part of a recent sale of The Middleware Company from Veritas to TechTarget. TMC and its research and consulting businesses have been discontinued. The move to TechTarget will mean great things for TSS and its readership - we are now freer and more capable to serve you.

Laszlo Platform Goes Open Source

Laszlo Systems has made the announcement that their Laszlo rich internet app platform is now open source. The entire platform has been released under the Common Public License (CPL), which means you can build commercial solutions on top of Laszlo. The company itself will now try to make money on services, support, and commercial app development.

Kodak wins Java lawsuit

Kodak has won a law suit with Sun, in which they claim that Java infringes on a patent that came from Wang. This patent covers "helper applications". They now go back into court, as Kodak seeks over $1 billion in damages.

Sun creates new Persistence API: EJB & JDO join forces

An open letter from Sun, to the community, has been released. The letter talks about how a new specification, RI, and TCK will be placed under the JSR-220 (EJB 3) group. JDO experts will join this effort, which will be based on the EJB 3 early draft as a starter. Sun is hoping that the entire community can get behind the goal of ONE persitence API for J2SE and J2EE.

TMC Completes Massive IBM J2EE / .NET Study

The Middleware Company has completed a massive study comparing IBM WebSphere against Microsoft .NET across multiple dimensions: developer productivity, manageability, reliability, and application performance. This latest study is the most extensive research endeavor TMC has conducted to date.
