I am developing some web-based applications which share the use of many reusable java classes. Can I specify
the directory rather than .jar as classpath in the MANIFEST.MF of ejb jar. I am afraid that the large
jar file requires a lot of build time!! Please help.

No, you can only do that in a J2SE application.
