General J2EE: Comparing Cocobase, Persistence EdgeXtend and Entity Beans

  1. Hello all,

I have been assigned the task of comparing these O-R mapping products for our project. If anyone has ever been in a similar situation of analyzing (performance, scalability, ease of use, cost etc) and choosing an appropriate product, please share your thoughts.

We are using a WAS 4.0 App Server.

    Thanks,
    Prashanth
  2. hi!

i took a look at cocobase4, EJB 1.1 CMP (last summer - thats why 1.1), castor, transparent persistence from sun (forte), ....

    the main thing was:
support standards! be vendor (app server and database)independend and be performant!

    it was a desaster :-)
--> ejb 1.1 is horrably slow and all the other do it their own - non standard - way.
JDO sounds good BUT it looks like that there are no production stable JDO implementations.

maybe EJB 2.0 is the thing (who knows ?!?!?)
has someone experience with EJB 2.0 CMP in production environments? how about performance?

Prashanth, please post your decision: what product and WHY!

    many thanx in advance,
    blip
