The first submission to the J2EE 1.3 benchmark SPECjAppServer2002 has been made today by IBM. The results position IBM with 297.65 TOPS (total operations per second) at $1108.14/TOPS; The results were submitted to distributed category, which has transactions spanning multiple databases/resource managers (transactions using two phase commit).

Congratulations to IBM for stepping up to set the bar on this. To me, this is more important than just releasing a product with J2EE 1.3 compliance. It shows a level of "production readiness" that the other vendors have not proven yet. Of couse, there is much more to being production ready than just being able to run jAppServer2002.
Now that the bar is set, I am sure we'll see other vendors submitting results. I am hoping that we'll see results for Solaris, AIX, HP-UX etc as well as intel.
