Web tier: servlets, JSP, Web frameworks: .js library versioning vs browser cache

  1. .js library versioning vs browser cache (2 messages)

    Folks,

We are currently investigating the different strategies to enable updates of the browser cached version of our javascript libraries. Everytime we deploy a new version of our app, we want the client browser to refresh their cached js libraries. After that initial refresh, we want to take advantage of the browser cache to speed up the overall response time of the app.

Any ideas on how to do it easily would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Read "Caching in HTTP"

Serve up your Javascript using a JSP, and set the appropriate anti-caching settings to prevent it from being cached in the browser. Alternately, use a javax.servlet.Filter to achieve the same effect.
