I am currently playing around with developing a web application. The application requires the use of forums and I was wondering if anybody could tell me what forum eninge TSS uses.
Was it coded from scratch ? if so, what language, tools, etc
If not, which third party program?
Any help or documentation would be greatly appreciated.
I just noticed that there was this post, regarding the old TSS site forum :
Is the new TSS site build on the same forum engine? or a new one?
Do yourself and your users a favor and use one zillions of the existing time-tested fully functional and usable forums already in existence.
I recommend phpBB. It has far more features than this crappy forum and is years ahead of the one used on java.net. Seriously. The hardcore punk scene where I live has a better forum than anyone in the Java community.
I recommend phpBB. It has far more features than this crappy forum and is years ahead of the one used on java.net.I have considered existing forum solutions. One of my is concerns are that many of them have their own user registration/profile setup, and I do not know how well the forum registration will integrate with the site registration. I guess I could use the forum registration as the site registration.
The other concern that I have is that a forum solution, such as phpBB, is only implemented in php while the site itself will be coded with servlets/jsp. Again, I am not sure how well that will integrate with the rest of the site. Can't say that I would like to mix implementation languages.
The TSS forum is not from the highest quality.
I cannot suggest you any java-forum software. Please evaluate yourself based on the following overview.
