Tangosol and Atlassian Increase Reliability and Availability of Enterprise Wikis SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF., September 19, 2006 – Atlassian Software Systems announced today that it is integrating Tangosol Coherence Data Grid with Atlassian Confluence, the enterprise wiki. Tangosol Coherence will provide Confluence with distributed caching and messaging, enabling the development of the upcoming clustered Confluence server, Confluence Massive. Confluence is used by more than 1,700 organizations of all sizes in more than 40 countries to collaborate, share knowledge, and manage content. With Tangosol Coherence, Confluence customers will be able to scale their wikis to tens of thousands of users. The optional clustered configuration not only provides massive scalability, but also improves reliability and enhances performance for large-scale wikis. “We guarantee our customers 100% uptime of their most critical infrastructure, because their business decisions, financial performance, and customer satisfaction depend on absolute information availability,” explained Matthew Porter, CEO, Contegix, LLC, an Atlassian partner and provider of hosted services for businesses running Confluence. “We are using the Coherence clustered version of Confluence to provide this essential reliability and the capability to easily scale to thousands of users.” Contegix is currently running Confluence with Coherence using the Tomcat Application Server with two Dell Xeon servers and a PostgresSQL database. "Many of our largest enterprise and university customers are ready to deploy Confluence down to every employee or student in the organization. What we're seeing is that wikis have gone from being viewed as unorthodox IT applications to must-have enterprise software. We partnered with Tangosol because of their outstanding reputation and solid engineering. They have been a terrific resource for us as we've built the next generation enterprise wiki," said Mike Cannon-Brookes, co-founder and CEO at Atlassian. Tangosol Coherence Data Grid provides:
  • Scalable performance that enables true linear growth;
  • Automatic, dynamic and transparent reliability of data;
  • Reduced latency and rapid data access for customers, partners, and employees.
Tangosol Coherence is the only data grid solution that increases both availability and reliability as it scales. Its fully meshed architecture dynamically adjusts to additional resources as well as resource failures through transparent data partitioning and automatic load balancing. Coherence enables data grids to continue operations even with failures of individual nodes. A development release of Confluence that includes Tangosol Coherence Data Grid is available to existing Confluence developers; more information can be found at http://www.atlassian.com/c/PR-C/11540[]. General availability of Confluence 2.3 with Tangosol Coherence Data Grid will be in October.
