If you are looking for a quick jumpstart of how to interact with the system tray than you need look no further than Michael Nascimento Santos's blog. In the entry he provides a very short but concise program that uses the two new classes SystemTray and TrayIcon. In comments already left on this entry, people have mentioned that it is a pitty that this features is so very windows centric. While Mac implantation does work on the Mac, it doesn't interact with the Mac tray in a Mac like manner. It is also reported that messages do not appear on Linux though there is no indication of the distribution tested or any other information provided. That said, this is a nice little perl in the JDK 6.0 and Michael's message is; "let's keep on searching for them..."
