News: Code at the speed of thought, Eclipse Ganymede SR1, Mylyn 3.0.2

  1. The first service release of Eclipse Ganymede is now available for download, and most packages contain the updated Mylyn 3.0.2. For those who still find themselves squinting too much when working on very large code bases, I've put up an introductory video called Mylyn 3.0: Code at the Speed of Thought (re-recording of my JavaOne 2008 Rock Star talk). Note that you will need some Mylyn extensions, such as Spring IDE and the SpringSource Tool Suite, in order for the focusing to work for your XML coding activities as it does for Java programming in the video. We have also put up a new quick reference guide to help newcomers get started exploring the Mylyn UI and the core concepts of task-focused programming.

  2. Breaks Subversion[ Go to top ]

I updated this morning and it broke the SVN integration... All connectors were gone and I could no longer choice a connector. Reinstalling doesn't work: does anyone know a workaround?

    Use subclipse

Geoffrey: If you have any additional trouble with SVN or other connectors, please file a bug with details about your Eclipse setup: http://www.eclipse.org/mylyn/community/

Using the 'Latest Release' instead of the 'Ganymede Release' (http://www.eclipse.org/subversive/downloads.php) solved this problem for me.

I'm new to Eclipse where can I find changelogs? What's new in this SR1? Why should I upgrade?

Eclipse works on the following release cycle: 1) Every June: coordinated release of most Eclipse projects, e.g. Eclipse Platform 3.4.0, Mylyn 3.0.2, CDT 5.0. This includes all the latest and greatest features. This year's release was called Ganymede and was based on Eclipse 3.4. Next year's release is called Galileo and is based on Eclipse 3.5. 2) Fall: SR1, in which projects provide key fixes from feedback on the coordinated release. 3) Winter: SR2, same as SR1, but there tend to be fewer changes. So if you want the latest and greatest, you can join the millions of others who download (1). If you are more conservative you can wait for SR1 to come out, which is available now. When SR2 is released on February 25th 2009, you should update to that. For he gory details see: http://wiki.eclipse.org/Ganymede#Coordinated_Service_Releases Regarding change logs, we haven't yet done a good job coordinating those. So you'll have to go to the New & Noteworty documents of the projects of interest, e.g.: Platform, Mylyn. -- Mik Kersten President & CTO, http://tasktop.com/blog Project Lead, http://eclipse.org/mylyn
