Flv formatted video are now commonly used on many video sites, because of many advantages to enhance the video viewing and buffering process. And if you want to upload videos to websites like YouTube, you definitely have to convert to flv. Thus I recommend you to try an online video ripper, with it you can not only rip video from websites but also convert them, of course, you can add local videos to convert too.

Yes, I agree with you. The FLV flash videos can be easily watched everyone on web browser online without installing other video player.
