    A lot of them (Thread.setDefaultUncaughtExceptionHandler, for example) aren't going to be generally useful - in fact, probably none of them are generally useful. Plus, a lot of experienced programmers will know some of them offhand - String.getBytes(), for example. But these also represent a sort of baseline knowledge that programmers will have their hand in; it's the sort of thing experienced programmers will dig into at varying points in their careers.

    Good article. I would love to see more like this. Question: How many DB vendors support that kind of JDBC2.0 activity? It's been a while since I was hardcore JDBC but I remember universal support being spotty at best.
