Mark Reinhold, chief architect of the Java Platform Group at Oracle, announced that his team has reached the eighth milestone in the development of JDK 8: the developer preview. This project to create an open-source reference implementation of the Java SE 8 Platform is thus in its final stages of the development process. Now suitable for broad testing by the developer community, this build’s primary new feature is Project Lambda, an initiative that makes it easier to write code that can effectively utilize multicore processors

Reinhold, who will be a keynote speaker at JavaOne2013, says that once the team has received and addressed the developers’ feedback, “we’ll gradually ramp down the rate of change in order to stabilize the code.” For further reading, visit his blog here.
