News: What's New In J2EE 1.4 - Web Services, JCA 1.5, JAAS

  1. A new SDTimes article looks at the release of the final recommendation for the J2EE 1.4 platform early next year. The 1.4 platform will offer increased support for Web services via JAX-RPC, a method for dynamically invoking Web services with support for SOAP attachments.

    Enhancements include the upgraded Java Connector Architecture (JCA) version 1.5, which provides for two-way asynchronous messaging. The platform will also support JDBC 3.0, JSP 2.0 (which defines the creation of common fragments of JavaServer Pages for reuse, and JAAS, which allows for pluggable authorization infrastructures.

    The review period for J2EE 1.4 ends Aug. 17

  2. A note regarding nomenclature: JCA actually refers to the Java Cryptography Architecture. The official 'abbreviation' for the J2EE Connector Architecture is "Connectors" - and was decided as such in June 2002.
