This week at JavaOne in San Francisco, BEA Systems, Inc. has announced the general availability of Kodo 4.0 with EJB3 and a preview of BEA WebLogic Server. Kodo 4.0, which was acquired as part of BEA's purchase of SolarMetric, Inc., in November 2005, is among the first generally available products to implement the EJB3 Java Persistence APIs. Kodo 4.0 provides EJB3 tooling and flexible support for Java Data Objects. The technology preview is designed to feature a full implementation of the recently finalized EJB3 specification, which developers can test today. In addition, BEA announced that Open JPA has been approved into the incubator of the Apache Software Foundation. BEA originally announced plans to donate a substantial portion of its Kodo product to the open source community under the name Open JPA earlier this year. What do you think of Kodo 4.0 with EJB3? Congratulations to the Kodo guys on their release! Does this release provide full support for JDO2 ? We look forward to more implementations of the excellent JDO2 standard. -

Not just yet -- focus for 4.0 was 100% JPA TCK compliance; JDO2 TCK is in the works. -Patrick -- Patrick Linskey http://bea.com -

So, is this the implicit statement that JDO2 for Kodo is basically out of the scope or at least not important to BEA? -

It is an implicit statement that JDO 2 is a more complex specification than JPA, and therefore is taking us slightly longer to release. As Patrick said, full support for the JDO 2 TCK is in the works! -

We take you in word (means the same in english ??). Even if BEA strategy on JDO does not seem to encourage the adoption (one for all the decision to release JPA implementation as open source, keeping JDO implementation closed). Anyway, KODO is always a great product. Guido. So, is this the implicit statement that JDO2 for Kodo is basically out of the scope or at least not important to BEA?

This sounds great! Was a bit worried since it been a bit quiet about JDO/Kodo/BEA for a while. Cheers, Johan Strandler
