Eclipse 3.2 is part of the Callisto release train. Callisto is about improving the productivity of the developers working on top of Eclipse frameworks by providing a more transparent and predictable development cycle. By releasing ten projects at the same time, the goal is to eliminate uncertainty about version compatibility and make it easier to incorporate multiple projects into your environment. The ten projects are:Threaded Messages (13)

This is a lot of software and it is great that Eclipse has managed to release that all together on one day. And Eclipse 3.2 gives a huge performance boost. Jochen Krause Innoopract Try Eclipse on demand - configure your individual Eclipse 3.2 download http://getcallisto.com -

Innoopract actually built the site with their Rich AJAX Platform (RAP) code. See http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/rap/ The project is just getting started, but it sure looks promising, doesn't it?Try Eclipse on demand - configure your individual Eclipse 3.2 download

I recommend downloading Eclipse WebTools 1.5 all-in-one: http://download3.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/drops/R-1.5.0-200606281455/ The zip file contains WebTools 1.5 + Eclipse 3.2 -

It's really good news. One of main reasons that I think Eclipse is 'not better than' NetBeans is that version issues for different projects.(kind of DLL-Hell!). -

It's good to see Eclipse moving forward, and the list of improvements is definitely impressive. However, compared to previous major releases, 3.2 QA fell short IMHO. Somethings were broken during all the RC phase and still don't work despite some improvements (at least on Linux). Some are just small annoyances like some shortcuts being ignored (eg. CTRL+SHIFT+U), but some problems are really serious, like the debugger being completely out of sync (see bug 148249). Windows version has its problems as well: one of my friends here at work installed 3.2 for Windows and saw some unreasonable compilation errors that she fixed by reverting to 3.1.2 (which I also had to do in order to be able to debug again). I don't know if 3.2 release has been rushed in order to join the "Callisto train", but I do know that previous major upgrades have been absolutely painless compared to this one. While editor improvements are really noteworthy, problems such as the debugger bug makes 3.2 a no-go for me. I guess I will have to wait for 3.2.1 in order to be able to use the latest version of Eclipse on Linux. -

Here are bugs I found: WTP fails to configure JBoss 3.2.(6,7,8) servers. JBoss IDE doesn't work on Eclipse 3.2 Also I was reported there are memory licks (a friend of mine had to restart eclipse every 6 hours on a large project). NetBeans 5.5 + Enterprise Pack looks much better than Eclipse Calisto to me. PS I have a question to those who use NetBeans as a platform. We develop RUNA WFE - an opensource workflow environment with workflow process editor. I wonder how long it would take a professional to create the same process designer on a NetBeans Platform? PS Demo can be found here. -

I have seen it crash a couple of times without warning (or logging) on Windows. No other plugins but the callisto ones. This never happened with the 3.1 releases. Edwin -

Same problem here. Sometimes eclipse just stalls and moments later crashes. This hardly ever happened in previous releases. -

You can always expect that with any major release from Eclipse, Sun will have to answer with a new trivial release of NetBeans. What will be new in the new Netbeans you wonder? Oh, Sun will probably just rewrite from scratch an existing beloved open source Java project, make it worse, and staple it on to the side of Out-Of-The-Box NetBeans EX:perience (c). -

Trivial new release? Not from where I am seeing it. Enterprise Pack 5.5, the Netbeans 5.5 IDE, the Profiler 5.5, then all the J2ME support and stuff...hate to sound like a Netbeans advert but I dont know what you are talking about.
