Review of PerformaSure, J2EE Performance Diagnosis Tool

Diagnosing and fixing performance bottlenecks in a J2EE application has never been a simple or quick task. I recently tried PerfomaSure, a J2EE performance diagnosis tool from Sitraka (now part of Quest Software) to optimize the performance of a J2EE application. I found the tool to be extremely valuable in locating many performance issues easily, saving me significant time in performance tuning the application.

IBM to acquire Rational for $2.1 Billion

IBM has announced the acquisition of Rational Software, maker of the Rose modelling tools, Clearcase configuration management tools, and many other development oriented toolsets. The $2.1 billion deal is IBM largest since the $3.5 billion purchase of Lotus Notes Corp. in 1995 and marks its latest move away from the computer hardware business that had been its trademark for decades.

New SPECjAppServer2001 Results from Borland and Sybase

Borland and Sybase have submitted new performance results to the SPECjAppServer2001 benchmark (formerly ECperf). Borland achieved $112.33 business operations per second (BOPS) and $500.36/BOPS in the single node category. Sybase submitted to the dual node category and has 202.12 BOPS and $332.73/BOPS (the best price performance figure so far).

JBuilder 8 Enterprise simplifies Web and EJB development with two-way visual designers and deployment to leading J2EE appservers. Sun, Microsoft Go Head-to-Head on bundling Java in Windows

The latest battle in the Microsoft-Sun war: Sun and MS will be battling over whether Microsoft should be forced to "bundle" a standard version of the Sun Java Virtual Machine in Windows.

Forrester: The J2EE appserver market still up for grabs

According to Forrester Research, application server vendors are claiming victory in a market they haven't won. In fact, if BEA Systems, IBM and Oracle don't buy development help soon, they risk losing customers to Sun, Microsoft and the open-source community. The special report debunks vendors marketshare claims and recommends that vendors focus on beefing up productivity tools.

IBM Announces Websphere Application Server 5

IBM has announced the availability of Websphere 5, the long awaited J2EE 1.3 certified appserver. The new version includes much of the web services support specified in J2EE 1.4 (from JSR 109), a JMX management interface, new self-healing and self-tuning/configuring features, etc. IBM debriefed TheServerSide on whats new in WS 5 and we've posted what we learned here.
