Macromedia and Oracle have announced that they have passed the Java Application Verification Kit (AVK) tests. Macromedia Coldfusion MX is now certified to be portable on any j2ee appserver. In order to run the verifier on Oracle's new RAD framework ADF, Oracle built a j2ee app with ADF and had that verified.

Increasing use of the AVK certification means that when choosing third party products you can be more confident that they are portable and won't lock you into any one platform. It is like J2EE server verification - but for applications.

The AVK is also useful as a debugging/test harness. You can download it for free and integrate it into your testing scripts. We found lots of irregularities with TSS' codebase when we ran the AVK and it was most helpful.
