What is Sitemesh?
SiteMesh is a web-page layout and decoration framework and web- application integration framework to aid in creating large sites consisting of many pages for which a consistent look/feel, navigation and layout scheme is required.
New in this release
Mainly a bug fix release, which fixes the number one bug, as well as many others. Application server compatibility was also improved.

I struggled with Tiles for a while, got frustrated, and dropped it.
Later, I picked up Sitemesh and absolutely loved it. Very clean, very non-intrusive. Highly recommended! -

Does it work with the part of struts that is not all f*cked up ? (non tiles).

I actually sumbled these days on a web project built on an inhouse web framework and it made me feel a deep love for struts. -

Yes, works great with Struts.
There might be a need for using a little patch if /do/ mapping is used:
