Norman Richards has posted the first release of the JBoss 4 Application Server Guide. A lot of people have been eager to get playing with JBoss 4 but have held out due to the lack of documentation before now.

Having good JBoss documentation is a BIG thing. It used to be so bad , outdated and full of errors. So i dont mind reading it in any format as far as its there. -

Great!
It looks like the freely available documentation just expanded a lot with this. Probably all the documentation updated to 4.0.1 is free (as in "free beer") with this release.
Using OpenOffice and Firefox it's quite easy to create a nice PDF for your personal use (copy'n'paste twenty times or so). I used 11pt and 10pt fonts and got a 400+ pages book. Thanks again! -

Could you please post your converted PDF book somewhere, so that others do not need to repeat the "20 or more cut and paste"? Thanks in advance1 -

Subscribe to the free trial for "create adobe pdf online" at www.adobe.com - point the creation tool to the index.html file, wait for a couple of minutes then download your JBoss 4 documentation nicely indexed and formatted in a pdf. It really is quite simple. -

Sorry, but the documents says "Copyright by JBoss Inc" and I _don't_ see a notice anywhere that it is released under GPL or FDL or something like this. Just the code is free up to now. -

Is this copyrighted? Methinks a PDF version of the documentation is going to make Jboss less than happy with you. -

This goes along with a greater commitment by us to provide better documentation. Sorry for the long delay, but I think the wait was worth it as Norm did a great job.
FYI, we've also put a lot of work recently into project management of all JBoss projects. We recently moved from SourceForge to our own hosted Jira site. In this, you will see detailed roadmaps of each JBoss project and subproject and when bugs/features are scheduled for release. So, if you're looking for something to contribute.... ;-)
Jira is located at:

Great job! Unfortunately, the guide has no chapter(s) on the new J2EE Web Service support.. is this coming up in another document or available in the commercial docs? (or am I missing something obvious?)
regards!

thanks.. i missed that one.. :-)
unfortunately it's only a very basic rpc-style introduction and doesn't cover any other (more usefull) features such as document/literal services, custom/no databinding, attachements, starting with wsdls, uddi integration, etc.. etc..
