The Open Source Initiative has approved Sun's CDDL (Common Development and Distribution License), paving the way for Solaris to be open sourced. What's more interesting is that the entire midlleware suite, commonly known as the Java Enterprise System, is also being considered for the CDDL. Make no mistake, it's the entire diamond mine that's being opened up along with the crown jewel.And the number of patents that Sun's giving out as a result, far exceeds the miserly 500 that IBM so "magnanimously donated" to the community.
