While the entire HTML 5 standard is years or more from adoption, there are many powerful features available in browsers today. In fact, five key next-generation features are already available in the latest (sometimes experimental) browser builds from Firefox, Opera, Safari, and Google Chrome. (Microsoft has announced that it will support HTML 5, and as Vic [Gundotra, VP of Engineering at Google] noted, "We eagerly await evidence of that.")These five features are: * Canvas * Video * Geo location * App cache/Database * Workers Tim presents examples of how these features are in use and available today, in real, production-ready applications. Companies from Google to startups are adopting them at an increasing rate. Vic Gundotra quipped, "The web has not seen this level of transformation, this level of acceleration, in the past ten years."

Google is really pushing HTML 5. I am here at Google IO 2009 and a lot of new projects they've been talking about are using HTML 5 and they have the support from a lot of the major browsers. Makes you wonder why Chrome really came out? :) For a lot of detailed notes, check out http://tinyurl.com/googleionotes Best regards, Richard L. Burton III SmartCode LLC http://www.EasyShout.com -

Wow. What rock was I under? I wasn't aware that HTML was that hot. HTML 5, CSS and JavaScript seem set to monopolize the web client space just as is the case with Java dominating the server side space. Google may have a point - "The browser is the computer." -

Hoping this post was a wry joke - as the page at that URL does nothing except provide a movie, which is hardly revolutionary. Oh, now I see it - "coming soon!" Well, see you "soon", then ... I guess ...

zembly (http://zembly.com) is also behind HTML 5 and has incorporated the bespin editor from Mozilla labs for their source code editor.
