    I would also point you in the direction of Tangosol's Coherence product. This is one of the easiest to use caching products out there, since you access the cache through a java.util.Map interface. Coherence also supports cluster-wide locking of items in the cache.

  5. You should also check out our product, Apptimizer. It is an out of process object storage repository where you can persist run time objects. It is not a db, but a high throughput read/write engine that is designed specifically for this purpose. It is used in many different ways, both in msoft and java.
