Performance and scalability: Tomcat Settings in Real World Application

  1. Tomcat Settings in Real World Application (3 messages)

    Greetings,

We are trying to launch Java Web Application live on Tomcat 4.1.12. Does anybody else runs Java Web Application live on Tomcat? I'll appreciate if somebody can share the following information about Tomcat environment.
    Server OS - ?
    Server CPU - ?
    Server RAM - ?
    JRE/JDK Version - ?
    JVM Memory Settings - ?
Number of JVMs or Tomcats Instances - ?
Tomcat Integration with Web Server - ? (IIS, Apache, etc.)
Tomcat Connector Protocol Type/Class - ? (Coyote, Http, etc.)
    Tomcat Connector acceptCount/min/maxProcessors - ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Taras

  2. We have a couple of tomcat based apps running. Mainly on Solaris 7, 8 and 9. The live machines are Sparc Ultra II 400Mhz quad processor machines with 2Gb RAM.

We are currently running with JDK 1.3.1 though we have run with 1.2.2 in the past.

As for the JVM settings I have it running with 256 Mb max heap size.

We run a number of parallel environments so at times there will be up to 6 or 7 tomcat instances running (each with their own JVM)

We integrate with Apache 1.3.x using AJP1.3 as the WARP connector doesn't support load balancing to my knowledge and Coyote wasn't available at the time of release.

Having said all of that, it greatly depends on what your application is as to the appropriate configuration and hardware. Load and volume testing is really the only way to determine this sort of information.

    Good Luck
  3. Thank you very much!
