Hewlett-Packard Company and Bluestone Software, Inc. today announced the companies have reached a definitive agreement under which HP will acquire Bluestone in a stock-for-stock strategic transaction. This is certainly good news for Bluestone. This veteran among application server market will know be able to compete against IBM, BEA and Sun, under the "HP" label!

Bluestone has been delivering a great application server and more recently e-business frameworks since many years. With HP's sales network and position, the competition with current leaders will be more comfortable.

IMHO, this remains to be seen. Sun's acquisitions of NetDynamics, Netscape, and Forte in effect slowed down the development of these app servers or even killed a couple. On the other hand, BEA bought WebLogic and made Tengah a dominant force. Whatever the result, the app server vendors are going through a major consolidation.
Which could either good or bad....
