I think that theserverside.com forum is really missing a forum devoted to database access layer alone. It has 3 (!!) forums devoted to EJBs (Programming, Design, Troubleshooting), which is cool, but but none of them focuses on database access mechanisms. It is a no-brainer that Entity Beans are not the only way to manage data. There are many great OR tools, like Hibernate. JDO is also coming. JDBC is also an option. That forum would be a cool place to discuss and/or compare different approaches and strategies of data management, with or without EJBs.

Just a thought.

We will soon be in the process of choosing a new set of forums. We are building up a list, and will definately add your suggestion to the mix.

For what it's worth, I think that the forums should be more based on parts of J2EE + other relevant stuff. There should only be one EJB forum (have you seen the cross posting?), and then one for Servlets/JSP, JMS, and then Vendor-specific, db-access (as orig. poster sug.), web services, and maybe stuff like JMX, JCA, and then a "Non-J2EE" or "Non-Java" section where people can flame about .NET (or maybe discuss it)

Good ideas. If anyone has any other forums they think would be good to have, place them in this thread. Then we will sift through them (as well as the ones we have) to select the best of the best.
