There is a lot of talk about how slow Web Services are. A newly posted article benchmarks Apache Axis2/Java against Codehaus XFire.
The article shows that Axis2 screams: it can fully saturate a 1GB Ethernet, and support peak loads of 10 million messages an hour. For large messages with complex objects (6k in/6k out), Axis2 can handle 1500 requests/sec, including deserializing into Java and reserializing for each message.
While the experimental JAXB support in Axis2 is still not competitive with XFire, the supported ADB binding is 40% faster than XFire/JAXB in the tests.
Time to rewrite the myth that SOAP is slow.
