MILAN, ITALY -- (Marketwire - Oct. 20, 2010) – Weswit Srl today announced that Lightstreamer has been procured by NASA Mission Operations Directorate via Lockheed Martin. Lightstreamer is a software product mainly used by tier-one financial institutions to deliver real-time market data through the Internet. The same technology is now being progressively adopted by the Aerospace and Military industries to distribute real-time telemetry data for vehicles (including spacecrafts, airplanes, ground vehicles, robotic vehicles).
“We are honored to know that Lightstreamer has been procured by NASA Mission Operations Directorate via Lockheed Martin and is been evaluated for distribution of real-time spacecraft telemetry data”, said Alessandro Alinone, co-CEO and CTO at Weswit (the Italian company behind Lightstreamer). “Italian excellence in some technological niches is well known and appreciated worldwide. Being able to leverage the Internet and the existing protocols to deliver real-time data to web browsers and smartphones is a huge step forward for telemetry applications.”
Lightstreamer was created ten years ago, with the goal of “inverting” the traditional Web paradigm: pushing real-time data to any browser instead of waiting for the browser to poll the server and retrieve new data (the traditional “keep-refreshing-the-page” paradigm).
Financial institutions were the first to take benefit of this apparently simple principle, leveraging the low latency and high scalability of Lightstreamer for their dealing platforms, and they still represent the major part of Weswit’s business. But more and more application domains are moving to the “Real-Time Internet” paradigm (including gaming, sporting, transportation, and entertainment).
About Weswit Srl
Weswit Srl is a software company focused on the development of Lightstreamer, a “Push Server” for distributing real-time data through the Web. Lightstreamer’s development began in 2000, when financial institutions were looking for a reliable and scalable solution to push real-time market data to their customers. Lightstreamer was the first solution that could deliver live data to any Web browser without relying on external components (such as Java applets). All the major client-side technologies are currently supported (Html, Flex, Silverlight, iPhone/iPad, Android, etc.).
Weswit has provided Lightstreamer technology to many financial institutions, as well as aerospace, military, gaming, sporting, and entertainment companies. Weswit has over 100 customers worldwide, including Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan, Scotia Bank, DnB NOR, Deutsche Boerse, Commerzbank, IG Group, ICAP, City Index, Fixnetix, NASA/Lockheed Martin, Sony Music, Stan James, and PartyGaming.
