I have a self extractible binary file in solaris box. When I try to extract it, using "tar -xvf filename", I get the "tar: directory checksum error". What could be the problem. Early solutions are appreciated.
It might not be a tar file.
If it's really "self-extractable," it isn't a tar file.
Maybe it's really a self-extracting executable, or maybe a shell archive. Maybe try seeing what file type it is, with "file <filename>". Or running it:
yourmachine% sh ./filename
Or it might be a zip or gzip file. Does that filename end in .zip or .gz?
Does it end in .Z? Then you might need to use "uncompress."
