Performance Testing with the MS Web Application Stress Tool
Microsoft has made freely available a complete, functional, website load generator and performance testing tool called Web Application Stress Tool (WAS). Along with cool features like cookie support and POST form testing, this tool seems to contain all the features that many of the existing and expensive web stress tools have.
Though the tool contains many features designed for Microsofts Offerings, it works fine with any J2EE based applications and doesn't have a limit on concurrent connections like the trial versions of programs like WebLoad do.
The only restriction is that WAS requires a WIN machine (obviously!).

Apache JMeter is also worth considering (particularly given that it runs on non-windows boxes.

Buried in the WAS knowledge base I found a note on https http://webtool.rte.microsoft.com/kb/hkb150.htm - it seems that WAS does not reuse SSL session-ids so on every (re)connect it has to do the full handshake which means that the server gets a higher cpu load than you would expect.

hi, i have tried web application stress tool many times but it was giving erratic results, can anyone pls. respond to the following doubts i have,
1. is this tool really doing its job
2. anybody has implimented this tool in real time project
3. can i monitor the behaviour of EJB components with this tool.
