I have been in various projects without proper software metrics and in my opinion metrics are still a very much underused tool. One of the reason is that at the end of the day and for most applications, development is driven by deadline and functionality...

So if a team can maintain a consistently high velocity, then that is an indication that the code is of good quality, well designed and will be easy to maintain in the future.

I wouldn't call velocity a result...
