determyne Releases Open Source J2EE Performance Monitoring Tool

News: determyne Releases Open Source J2EE Performance Monitoring Tool

  1. determyne Inc. has announced the technology preview of an open source transaction-level performance monitoring solution for J2EE applications. insideApps is an end-to-end transaction tracing and reporting system that enables you to centrally and automatically monitor the performance of your J2EE applications. In contrast to the traditional approach of collecting and displaying aggregated metrics for different system components, insideApps focuses on monitoring applications from a transactions perspective. With zero configuration and very low overhead, insideApps goes "under the hood" to look at resource consumption and time taken by each and every transaction flowing through the HTTP server, J2EE container, and database layers of infrastructure. insideApps then flags anomalies with pointers to problematic areas for easy diagnosis. insideApps Open Source edition is completely free and available under the industry standard LGPL open source license. Try out and let us know your feedback. Links

  2. Zero configuration and very low overhead is the way to go. Congratulations on your release! insideApps is the perfect, orthogonal, complement to my own open-source monitoring utility, MessAdmin (shameless plug!).
  3. I think zero configuration term is inaccurate. Walk through the installation guide, it has quite a few configuration steps. Perhaps it was meant to say "zero modifications to your application, once you get server to work".
  4. The "zero configuration" is meant for application and "Transaction Group" discovery. So once installed, insideApps would find out and start showing application metrics without any need to configure application topology etc. You rightly pointed out that the installation process has some manual steps. This is the first release of the product and the install part is where we would be spending quite a bit of time to simplify and eliminate the existing manual steps. We would love to hear back your experience and any issues that you might be facing. Please feel free to use the forums as well as email info at determyne dot com for the same. 5. Hi

I am trying insideapps on one of our test environment.

I am using the Apache Tomcat on which the Java Application is deployed. I have followed the steps mentioned in the document, however I cannot see the application on in the insideapps console.

Moreover when I am clicking on the show details it is showing the error 500 as shown below:

HTTP Status 500 - type Exception report message description

The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request.

    javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet.service( org.ajax4jsf.webapp.BaseXMLFilter.doXmlFilter( org.ajax4jsf.webapp.BaseFilter.doFilter( root cause java.lang.NullPointerException org.determyne.insideapps.ui.txnclass.TransactionClassDataProvider.initData( org.determyne.insideapps.ui.txnclass.TransactionClassDataProvider.getAllData( org.determyne.insideapps.ui.txnclass.TransactionClassDataProvider.getRowCount( org.determyne.insideapps.ui.base.TableExtendedDataModel.getRowCount( org.ajax4jsf.component.UIDataAdaptor.getRowCount( org.richfaces.component.UIDatascroller.getRowCount( org.richfaces.component.UIDatascroller.getPageCount( org.richfaces.renderkit.html.DataScrollerRenderer.isRenderedOnSinglePage( org.richfaces.renderkit.html.DatascrollerTemplate.doEncodeEnd( org.richfaces.renderkit.html.DatascrollerTemplate.doEncodeEnd( org.ajax4jsf.renderkit.RendererBase.encodeEnd( javax.faces.component.UIComponentBase.encodeEnd( org.ajax4jsf.renderkit.RendererBase.renderChild( org.richfaces.renderkit.AbstractRowsRenderer.encodeCellChildren( org.richfaces.renderkit.AbstractRowsRenderer.encodeTableHeaderFacet( org.richfaces.renderkit.AbstractTableRenderer.encodeFooter( org.richfaces.renderkit.AbstractTableRenderer.encodeTableStructure( org.richfaces.renderkit.html.DataTableRenderer.doEncodeBegin( org.richfaces.renderkit.html.DataTableRenderer.doEncodeBegin( org.ajax4jsf.renderkit.RendererBase.encodeBegin( javax.faces.component.UIComponentBase.encodeBegin( javax.faces.component.UIData.encodeBegin( org.ajax4jsf.component.UIDataAdaptor.encodeBegin( javax.faces.component.UIComponent.encodeAll( javax.faces.component.UIComponent.encodeAll( javax.faces.component.UIComponent.encodeAll( com.sun.faces.application.ViewHandlerImpl.doRenderView( com.sun.faces.application.ViewHandlerImpl.renderView( org.ajax4jsf.application.ViewHandlerWrapper.renderView( org.ajax4jsf.application.AjaxViewHandler.renderView( com.sun.faces.lifecycle.RenderResponsePhase.execute( com.sun.faces.lifecycle.LifecycleImpl.phase( com.sun.faces.lifecycle.LifecycleImpl.render( javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet.service( org.ajax4jsf.webapp.BaseXMLFilter.doXmlFilter( org.ajax4jsf.webapp.BaseFilter.doFilter(

There is no manual or document is available which explains about the configurations of the insideapps and adding an application for monitoring on this tool.

    Your urgent help is needed.

    Warm regards

  6. We have got quite a number of queries on the source code availability on sourceforge. Thanks for all the interest. We would be posting the source code on this site within the next couple of days time.
  7. Similar to Glassbox?[ Go to top ]

This looks interesting. I'll have to check it out. It also seems to be somewhat similar to Glassbox. In what ways is it different? Thanks, Matt Grove Hill Software
