  2. is definitely Bugzilla. But I find it rather mediocre, esp. the user interface. On the other hand a number of large projects are using it. So at the very least, it has more support when migrating off it than other less-known bug trackers...

    JIRA (which is commercial, but you get the source if you pay) has a free-as-beer licence if used for open source projects, although you won't get the source code with this kind of licence.

    There is the Mantis Bug Tracking. It's in PHP and very easy to install, configure and use. I don't know if exists "the best" bug tracker. There are many bug trackers in market, and each one has his advantages and disadvantages.

    Personally, I prefer Mantis over Bugzilla.

    Just installed it, took about 5-10minutes, and looks awesome.
    using Apache/Tomcat/MySQL
  5. OneDesk[ Go to top ]

    If you're looking for a cloud based solution, give OneDesk a look  ( http://www.onedesk.com ) -- it integrates bug and issue tracking as part of a wider project management solution of blended social applications, providing powerful bug tracking tools alongside a wider context of how each fix fits into the product release schedule.
