Marina is not unique in that she isn’t the only to come to this conclusion. This is primarily because the reference implementation being delivered with GlassFish (JSR220) is based on the oldest O/R mapping framework available in the industry, TopLink. TopLink was first developed in Smalltalk thus making it older then Java itself. Though porting TopLink to Java resulted in some not so insignificant changes to the tool, the long history with O/R mapping has resulted in something that just works.
