In TSS' first satirical TechTalk, Cameron Purdy and Floyd Marinescu interview Hani Suleiman, the writer of the infamous BileBlog.
At times serious, at times ridiculous, the interview covers Hani's views on Java and various technologies and personalities in the community, his top three pet peeves (obligatory Maven pot shots), the background behind a number of inside Bileblog jokes such as the definition of "asshat", Craig Mclanahan's proper name spelling, etc.
On a personal note, we also hear about Hani's childhood and discover the less known fact that Hani is actually on the JCP and is an appserver and portal vendor.
In perhaps a slightly less-bile style, Hani also gives us a pragmattic look at the state of open source software, the good, the bad, and the ugly with JSR-168, EJB 3, the JCP, .NET vs. Java, and more.
Go clicky-clickety here to see Hani Suleiman on Java
Note: This is a satirical tech talk, and for the most part not intended to be serious.

Yes, Hani Hilton. The Paris Hilton reference had no bearing on any sex tapes floating about on the net or the bad acting of an aweful reality show. Although Hani's blog and interview do have some resemblance to watching a bad TV show or a train wreck, for that matter. Hani Hilton shares the surname of Paris mostly for one reason - a talentless hack that hogs the red carpet despite contributing no value at all to the public.
I find it amazing that someone that is so pickled (ie. full of piss and vinegar) is given a forum to spew his venom. The man has nothing of value to add to anything in the community, but TSS seems to think it wise to post his meaningless dribble and awefully boring interview for the sake of appeasing his ego. It is quite the snoozer of an interview, btw - blah blah. I hate this. blah blah. I hate that. Really enlightening 0_o
I'm guessing his hate towards anything and anyone of any significance stems from the fact that he is completely irrelevant in the java community, despite some votes he may have been handed by some who fear he will turn his limp guns on them.
Keep it up, Hilton. The more outlandish, bitter, and absurd your comments become over time, the more irrelevant and fringe-personality you become. -

Obviously, the communities (plural, I mean TSS, Sun, and Java) disagree with you, and it makes me wonder why you have decided to speak on their behalf.but TSS seems to think it wise to post his meaningless dribble and awefully boring interview for the sake of appeasing his ego.
Then take it up with the TSS people, Hani didn't ask to be interviewed.he is completely irrelevant in the java community
Not only is the current thread a clear indication that you are wrong about that, but Hani also happens to be one of the very few individuals who's part of the JCP Executive Committee.
Very few individuals have achieved this, and the few who do definitely belong to the category of "people who are instrumental to the Java community".
I give you credit for coining "Hani Hilton", though, I love it.

Hani is not on JCP EC. I do remember him being nominated, but he did not get enough votes.

I'm just upset that Hani didn't mention me. I always consider it a high compliment when he mentions he considers me an ass hat. Its like if Saddam Hussain said I wasn't his favorite developer or something. Its like the pope would feel if Satan said "he's my least favorite yet". I manage to make mention in the bile blog like every 3rd entry. It just seems wrong that I wasn't mentioned explicitly :-)

Yeah, I wonder this as well. I find the existence of Clogging to be reasonably helpful, given that there is no other implementation-independent way of logging that I know of. Am I missing something? I suppose the way they did it might suck, but I'd rather use Clogging than hard-code a dependency to a particular implementation or (worse) have to live with someone else's hard-coded dependency. -

eric zorn from chicago tribune sums up why this interview was, imo, mighty funny: "The part of the brain that registers surprise, which humor depends on, apparently resides very close in the cerebellum to its cousins: shock, dismay and disgust. They're always poking each other and giggling, at least in my case." (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/chi-0503170239mar17,1,1108293.column?coll=chi-navrailnews-nav)
some of hani's jabs hit pretty close to home, but this too made for a good laugh.
there is value in his pragmatic cynicism.
