The J-Spaces Platform is an intelligent connectivity service that provides an efficient means of sharing and exchanging information among distributed applications. It is a commercial implementation of the Sun Microsystems's JavaSpaces technology specification and includes major enhancements and improvements that make it enterprise ready.
The increasingly networked world poses new challenges to the way distributed, intranet-based applications are built. This new set of applications, often referred to as Enterprise Services, represents a new level of inter-program and inter-component interaction and behavior. For the first time, it makes possible a way of building large, flexible applications dynamically, from a set of standard independent software parts. This is a considerable advance from a time when any significant amount of dynamic behavior was simply not possible.

The combination of Jini™ Network Technology as the general services infrastructure and JavaSpaces technology as the exchange service is the perfect architectural solution.
"Sharing and exchanging information between distributed applications was always a complex issue," says J-Spaces™ CTO, Nati Shalom.
"Our experience had made us realize that traditional solutions such as message passing and data bases are far from being sufficient and there is a need for a combination of both. The concept of Tuple Spaces, on which JavaSpaces technology was based, provides an extremely elegant approach that made our choice of this technology a natural one."

The current beta version of J-Spaces has focused on creating a robust and open space engine. It already provides a state-of-the-art parallel engine and includes open integration with various backend databases such as Oracle, Versant and Object Design. Future releases will include support for clustering, security, and API enhancement.
The J-Spaces Platform has passed the Jini Network Technology Core Platform Compatibility Kit (TCK). Passing the TCK ensures that J-Spaces is compatible with Core Platform Specifications.
